Eco Thunder Kid

Fusion (9-14yrs) and Feet First (5-8yrs) often collaborate together on projects, providing space and time for siblings to work together and for older group members to act as peer mentors.  In October 2009 the groups came together for an environmental creative project which produced Eco-Thunder Kid, a Superhero for the Camden area.

The project was inspired by participants' own desires to explore the world of Superheros and the positive community values that superhero stories invoke.  A   research and development phase saw the participants visit the British Museum to investigate icons and heroes from around the World and a trip to Camden Recycling Unit to learn about recycling and looking after the environment.  After a series of drama, art and sculpture workshops incorporating the group's ideas they created their own Superhero to change the the World.  The result was Eco-Thunder Kid, an environmental Superhero  who lives underground in North London and uses his special powers to reduce CO2, help animals and people in need and combat pollution.

Sculpture project, refugee Arts

Created in partnership with the October Gallery and artist Susan Swartzberg, the sculpture was made from recycled materials and was unveiled by the young people and the Mayor of Camden in Russell Square Gardens.  After surviving the winter in the gardens the sculpture is now moving to the Calthorpe project.  The legacy for the project will be a cartoon strip based on the Superhero.
